Dworet, a high school senior, was a competitive swimmer aspiring to compete in the 2020 Olympics.
“That was what he was working for, and he would’ve made it,” Nicole Nilsson, a family friend, told TIME. “He had very big aspirations.”
Dworet had made the Tokyo 2020 logo his screensaver and had recently signed a letter of intent to join the University of Indianapolis swim team as a freshman in the fall.
“Nick’s death is a reminder that we are connected to the larger world, and when tragedy hits in places around the world, it oftentimes affects us at home,” university president Robert Manuel said in a statement. “Today, and in the coming days, I hope you will hold Nick, his family, all of the victims, as well as the Parkland community and first responders in your prayers.”
Dworet would have turned 18 next month.

The granddaughter and niece of an Amberley Village family was one of the 17 students and teachers killed in the shooting at a Parkland, Florida, school Wednesday.
Jamie Guttenberg, 14, is the granddaughter of Ethel and Marvin Guttenberg and the niece of Dr. Abbie and John Youkilis of Amberley Village.
On Facebook, Abbie Youkilis described her niece as an intelligent and feisty girl who wanted to be a mother and an occupational therapist.
"She was a pretty girl with the world’s best smile and her soul was sensitive and compassionate," Youkilis said. "She always looked out for the underdog and the bullied and she probably had been kind to the student who shot her."

Aaron Feis threw himself in front of students to protect them from oncoming bullets.
Beigel, a geography teacher at the high school, was remembered Thursday by students who said he died saving their lives.
“I will never forget the actions that he took for me and for fellow students in the classroom,” student Kelsey Friend told CNN. “I am alive today because of him.”
Friend told Good Morning America that Beigel had unlocked a classroom for her and other students to hide inside, but he was shot in the doorway.

Hixon, the athletic director at the school, was also among those killed in the shooting.
“Chris is probably the nicest guy I have ever met. He would give you the shirt off his back. He does so much. That is terrible that it would happen to anybody. It is so senseless,” Dan Jacob, the athletic director at nearby Coral Springs High School, told the Sun-Sentinel.

Luke Hoyer: A 15-year-old student. His aunt said, “Our Luke was a precious child, who just went to school yesterday not knowing what was to come.”
Hoyer was a freshman at the school. In an interview with People, his aunt Joan Cox described him as a “happy-go-lucky kid” who loved basketball, and a “momma’s boy” who rarely got into trouble.
“He didn’t know what he wanted to do yet,” Cox said. “He was just a freshman and was looking forward to high school.”

Schentrup had recently gone on a college visit to the University of Washington, her cousin Matt Brandow said in a Facebook post, calling her the “most intelligible 16 year old I’ve ever met.”

Montalto was part of her high school’s state-champion marching band, the Sun-Sentinel reported.

Wang was in the school’s Junior Reserve Office Training Program, according to the Miami Herald, and was last seen in his gray uniform on Wednesday. His cousin, Aaron Chen, told the Herald that Wang held the door open so others could escape during the shooting.“He was always so nice and so generous,” Chen told the New York Times. Chen said his cousin helped him settle in when he moved to Florida and made sure he was not bullied.
Wang’s best friend, Gabriel Ammirata, also described him as “funny, nice and a great friend,”

“Alaina loved to serve,” a statement from her family said, according to CNN. “While we will not have the opportunity to watch her grow up and become the amazing woman we know she would become, we are keeping an eternal perspective.”

Duque Anguiano was a freshman at the school, according to the Miami Herald. His older brother, Miguel, posted about his death on Instagram early Thursday. “Words can not describe my pain,” he wrote in the post. “I love brother Martin you’ll be missed buddy. I know you’re in a better place. Duques forever man I love you junior!!!”

Loughran loved her cousins and spending time at the beach, her family said, according to the New York Times.
Her aunt, Lindsay Fontana, posted about Loughran’s death on Facebook and urged readers to take action to prevent future shootings.
“We are absolutely gutted. Cara was 14 years old. She was an excellent student, she loved the beach and she loved our girls,” she wrote in the post. “While your thoughts are appreciated, I beg you to DO SOMETHING. This should not have happened to our niece Cara and it can not happen to other people’s families.”

Superbowl Sunday: American Football terms
American Football
Exercise 1: Repeat the phrases and definitions aloud.
The idea is to carry the football across the end zone to score a touchdown. Each team gets four tries to advance 10 yards. If they move the ten yards, then it’s considered a first down and they get four more tries.
A touchdown is worth 6 points, a field goal is worth 3 points, a try is for an extra 1 or 2 points. A safety is worth 2 points.
Positions: 11 players each team. There are an offensive and a different defensive team. The field is 50 yards long on each side.
Offensive team
Quarterback: The Quarterback calls the plays during the huddle, shouts the signals at the scrimmage and receives the ball from the snap.
Halfback: The halfback blocks and carries the ball on running plays.
Fullback: Fullbacks are usually larger than halfbacks and function as blockers.
Center: The Center is the leader of the offensive line, who handles the football on every play. On either side of the center are the guards, while tackles line up outside the guards.
Guard: A guard is a blocker whose job it is to protect the Quarterback.
Tackle (tak-uhl): The tackles are the outside two members of the offensive line. A tackle occurs when a player carrying the ball is knocked to the ground by an opposing team member and the play is then considered over.
Tight end: The tight end is both a receiver and a blocker.
Wide receiver (ri-see-ver): The wide receiver is usually the quickest on the offensive team.
Defense (dih-fens) team:
Defensive Line: The defensive line is used to prevent a running play as well as to block passing to receivers. The line has 3-5 players usually including:
Cornerbacks: Cornerbacks are the wide guards on the field and are opposite offensive receivers. Cornerbacks cover receivers and runners that get missed by the line.
Defensive Tackles: The defensive tackles are inside the defensive line.
Nose Guard: The nose guard is a defensive lineman who is the largest and strongest player who can stop action in the center of scrimmage.
Defensive Ends: The defensive ends job is to sack the quarterback.
Linebackers: Linebackers are the main line of defense and are usually fast and very good blockers.
Cornerbacks:
Safety: The Safety is the last resort defense.
Special teams: Special teams is the name given to the punter, field goal kicker, placeholder, and snapper.
Punter: The punter is a player who can kick punts while moving and during the game. He can usually place the football with great accuracy anywhere on the field.
Fumble: When a team member drops or loses the football.
A safety is when a player allows the ball to go into his own end zone.
