Amanda Gorman

Amanda Gorman(gawr-muhn) (b. 1998) For a poet to captivate America as fast as Amanda Gorman did demonstrates both excellence and courage. When Gorman read her poem The Hill We Climb at the inauguration of Joe Biden on January 20, 2021, America got to see her light, brilliance, and humor. Immediately after Gorman's reading at the inauguration, her two upcoming books, the poetry collection The Hill We Climb, and a project for youth, Change Sings: A Children's Anthem was at the top of Amazon's bestseller list. Ms. Gorman attended New Roads, a private school in Santa Monica. As a senior, she received a Milken Family Foundation college scholarship. She studied sociology at Harvard College, graduating cum laude in 2020 and as a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Her books include: The One for Whom Food Is Not Enough and Candy Cane; Poetry Is. You are here: The Write Girl journey. Gorman made the cover of TIME Magazine’s February 2021 issue. The Write Girl is a creative writing and mentoring organization where Ms. Gorman found support in her work.
