Freedom and liberty

Liberty means the condition in which an individual has the ability to act following his or her own will and alternatively, achieve their potential, within the context of other words like political freedom. ... They argue that liberty without equality means the domination of the most powerful.


Broadly speaking, liberty is the ability to do as one pleases. In modern politics, liberty is the state of being free within society from oppressive restrictions imposed by authority on one's way of life, behavior, or political views. ... Liberty can be taken away as a form of punishment.

Civil liberties include:
The right to free speech.
The right to privacy.
The right to remain silent in a police interrogation.
The right to be free from unreasonable searches of your home.
The right to a fair court trial.
The right to marry.
The right to vote.


FREEDOM, LIBERTY, LICENSE mean the power or condition of acting without compulsion. FREEDOM has a broad range of applications from the total absence of restraint to merely a sense of not being unduly hampered or frustrated. freedom of the press LIBERTY suggests release from former restraint or compulsion.  the released prisoner had difficulty adjusting to his new liberty LICENSE implies freedom specially granted or conceded and may connote an abuse of freedom.  freedom without responsibility may degenerate into license
